Tower News and Updates

Project Completed. Posted March 14th, 2014

The beacon and controller are installed and operational. This marks the completion of the project. We scheduled a small supplemtentary addition beyond the scope of the project for next Saturday that will provide additional connection options. This does not affect the initial operation of the tower as it is already providing internet service.

Tower Officially Online! Posted March 13th, 2014

The tower is now offically active and providing internet service! The first set of installations is in progress and will be used to baseline our hardware configuration, additional installations scheduled for Saturday. Scheduling for service installation will begin on Tuesday March 18th. There is indeed a very large list of people waiting for service, we have doubled our capacity for installation work and will endeavour to move through the list quickly. We have one more climb scheduled for the beacon, had to be canceled today due to windy conditions beyond what was forecasted, scheduled 3-14.

Tower Online by 3-15! Posted March 8th, 2014

Communications backhaul installed and operational. Mid-point cabling installed. All that remains is the tower beacon and backhaul aiming. Installations may begin late next week.

Phase 3 - Nearly Complete Posted March 7th, 2014

Great progress today. All sectors are installed and operational, all top-tower cable management is complete. Main power is hooked up and operational. Power management equipment installed, power distribution switches installed, routing equipment installed. Most programming completed. Primary communications backhaul and cabling is up next. Next climb tomorrow, 3-8-13.

Phase 3 - Progress Posted March 7th, 2014

Primary electrical to the tower is now operational. We raised and installed the majority of the communications cabling for the top-tower equipment. Several smaller items of importance were completed at the base of the tower. Next climb scheduled today, 3-7-14.

Construction completed - Phase 3 starts Posted March 1st, 2014

Despite windchills of -15F at the top, the tower has reached its completed height of 330ft and the last set of guy wires is installed. Phase 3 begins on 3-6 (pending weather) and involves equipment installation, beacon installation and cabling. This last phase will be completed quickly as the majority of the heavy work is completed.

Still delayed - Resume 2-28 Posted February 27th, 2014

The wind appears to subside starting tomorrow, tower construction and equipment deployment scheduled on 2-28 and 3-1.

Weather Delays Posted February 20th, 2014

Scheduled construction is delayed due to the weather, primarily the wind. Our replacement tower section came in, it is just a matter of waiting for the weather to cooperate. All remaining supplies and equipment are staged for rapid deployment once the tower construction phase is over.

Progress Update - 310ft Posted February 15th, 2014

Tower is now 310ft, temporary guy wires are installed for the final 20ft. We are now waiting for the manufacturer to ship us a replacement section due to improperly drilled holes (one section cannot fit). Construction resumes Thursday February 20th pending we received a replacement tower section and the weather cooperates.

Progress Update - 280ft Posted February 13th, 2014

Due to the high wind we could not spend much time on the tower, we increased the height to 280ft and installed the 6th of 7 sets of permanent guy wires. The tower is tensioned and plumb to 280ft which will allow us to complete or nearly complete the build during the next climbing session. We also performed additional groundwork, everything is set for the next climb and it will be a productive one. We are pleased to see the weather is improving next week. Next climb tentatively set for 2/15 - Saturday.

Progress Update - 270ft Posted February 8th, 2014

Great progress today, tower height was increased by 40ft up to 270ft. Temporary guy wires are tensioned and we are ready for the next set of permanent guy wires. We planned for and indeed had time today to put up another 30ft along with the 6th set of permanent guy wires however due to yet another manufacturer failure the guy wires could not be installed. 60ft remaining, construction resumes 2/13 pending weather.

Progress Update - Groundwork Posted February 5th, 2014

Due to better weather later this week, we moved vertical construction timeframes to later this week and moved forward ground-related activities. We have begun trenching in the quarter-mile electrical run needed to supply the tower with electricity. We also positioned resources for the bunker and other equipment needed to operate the tower. Currently set to climb all day Friday and all day Saturday, if all goes well we should end up around 280ft.

Progress Update - 2/3 Complete Posted February 1st, 2014

Tower height is now 230ft, 100ft remains. We also completed two sets of permanent guy wires, two sets remain. Construction resumes on Wednesday February 5th.

Fitment issues. Progress. Posted January 31st, 2014

Nearly 3/4 of the day was spent fixing a fitment problem (manufacturer's fault) at 180ft, tower height is now 190ft. Looking forward to better progress tomorrow.

Resume Construction. Posted January 30th, 2014

Currently set to resume construction on 1-31 and 2-1. The weather has been very poor, the forecasts highly inaccurate, we will set down a schedule once some consistency is found with the weather.

Significant Delays Posted January 24th, 2014

The cold temperatures followed by very high winds this week has forced us to cancel several days of tower construction. In the mean time we have accomplished several other important tasks. The tower is now plumb up to 170ft, all current guy wires are properly tensioned. Temporary guy wires are installed and tensioned as well, next time we climb we will not have any preceding small tasks to hold us up and will be able to commence construction immediately. We are still hoping tomorrow works out, next weeks climbing schedule has been doubled to make up lost time this week. Weather forecasts are already showing next week to be a bear as well.

Possible Delays Posted January 21st, 2014

High winds in tandem with colder temperatures create an environment that is dangerous and cumbersome to work in, if we delay we will substitute other aspects of tower ground work into our schedule and delay vertical construction until later this week. Egregiously inaccurate forecasting as of late will add a degree of tentativeness to a delay.

Progress Update - Half Complete Posted January 18th, 2014

The tower is now officially half built with its current height at 170ft. The project is currently on schedule. We are anticipating the cold weather next week and have already augmented our schedule and construction strategy to deal with it. Wind in conjunction with the colder temps may delay the project. Construction resumes on Wednesday January 22nd, in the mean time we continue to prepare for the top half of the tower.

Progress Update - Tensioning/Sections Posted January 17th, 2014

Tower is now properly tensioned up to its current height of 140ft. We spent a large portion of the day ensuring the tower is perfectly level as we move towards and past the halfway point. Tomorrow we will meet and exceed the halfway point.

Progress Update - 1/3 Complete Posted January 16th, 2014

The tower is now officially 1/3rd done - 110ft, had a few issues with careless manufacturers and some equipment we ordered but we worked through those problems fairly quickly. Good progress thus far.

Progress Update - Phase 2 Start Posted January 15th, 2014

The freezing rain we received last week proved to be problematic today as we had ice buildup on the tower and hardware. Aside from this minor delay we built and installed our gin pole, this hardware is designed to lift and place tower sections. Other small tasks completed as well. Everything looking good.

Tower Progress - Phase 1 Complete Posted January 11th, 2014

The initial phase is now complete, the tower is built to 50ft and the first set of permanent guy wires is installed. We were able to complete the entire first phase on time and are all set for primary construction next week. Phase 2 still scheduled to begin January 15th.

Tower Construction - Phase 1 start Posted January 10th, 2014

With the arctic weather subsiding the day prior, we have successfully begun the tower construction project. This project is broken into phases, the initial phase involves equipment/supply staging, preparation work, as well as the first section of the tower. This phase will be finished on Saturday the 11th. Primary construction begins on January 15th and will span the remainder of January at minimum.

Tower Preparation Posted January 2rd, 2014

The tower bases have cured and are now ready to receive the tower itself. Tower preparation and staging will begin on January 8th until January 11th. The primary tower construction project is slated to begin on January 15th, we will work fervently to finish the project by the end of January however we expect some type of weather related disruption at some point.

Curing - Tower delivered. Posted December 3rd, 2013

All foundations currently curing. Will be appoximately 3-4 weeks for the concrete to reach the required compressive strength needed for tower assembly. All tower components have been delivered. As soon as the curing is complete, we will begin construction. We are now past all externally-controlled timeframes and will build/outfit the tower as soon as possible.

Foundations Curing Posted November 20th, 2013

Concrete has been poured for 6 of 7 concrete foundations. One more piece of tower base support on its way before the main foundation is poured. There will be period of time for the foundation to cure, primary construction phase will start once concrete is ready.

Excavation/Foundations Tomorrow Posted November 11th, 2013

Due to unpredictable rainy weather in addition to manufacturing delays, we had to postpone foundations for the last month. Excavation starts tomorrow on the tower foundations as we have received the rest of the foundation parts.

Tower ordered. Concrete Foundations Posted September 28th, 2013

Finally, after all of the paperwork, setbacks and external administrative waiting periods we have ordered the tower. The tower is currently in shipping and is set to be delivered next week. Once we receive the kit we will begin the concrete foundations, this will take place as soon as possible. We have our contractors and consultants on standby as we await the arrival of the tower.

All authorizations acquired - moving on Posted September 13th, 2013

All permits and variances have been achieved - FAA, FCC, special-use, height variance, bond (on and on). In the mean time, land continues to be cleared. The tower will be ordered next week, once received we will begin installing tower foundations. Additionally we have brought in a tower expert with a long career of achievements with extensive international tower construction credentials.

Clearing land for construction. Posted August 16th, 2013

We begin clearing land for concrete foundations starting the week of August 19th.

FAA permit approved Posted August 15th, 2013

Our FAA tower application was finalyl accepted, we are now approved by the FAA to build the tower. Construction begins next week.

General Update Posted August 9th, 2013

Most of the paperwork is complete, there is more yet to do but we are far enough down this path that we can begin preliminary construction soon. We are ready to purchase the tower itseuf and begin the concrete work, the only thing we are waiting for is the FAA permit to be approved which we anticipating anytime. Once the FAA permit and building permit are issued we will begin the physical construction project asap.

Special use permit approved. Posted July 16th, 2013

The planning commission approved the special use permit required to build our tower. Additional conditions are required however the majority of these conditions will be easily fulfilled in the next few days. We have enough pre-requisites completed to continue moving forward. The last few months of have spent on zoning/planning/engineering requirements, wityh most of these requirements completed we are very close to beginning construction.

Planning commission meeting Posted July 16th, 2013

Approval of the variance to increase our tower's height was a step forward however we must acquire another permit to place our tower on the property we designated. This meeting is tonight at 7pm located at 102 E. 5th Street in Scottville. We are seeking contingent approval so that we may move forward immediately. Aside from process obstructions we are ready to go in every sense.

Height variance approved Posted July 9th, 2013

Our meeting on July 9th with the Mason County Zoning Board of Appeals resulted in the approval of our tower to be built at the height he intended for it to be built. This variance allows us to build a taller tower which will result in superior coverage as well as lower costs of installation for our clients. There is another meeting on July 16th.

Zoning/Final RFP Posted May 24th, 2013

We have received most of the quotes back from our RFP, we are breaking ground asap after choosing a contractor for the tower foundation. We are still waiting for some zoning information, the entire site planning/permit/zoning process has taken an egregious amount of time thus far and is the primary reason this project has not broken ground months ago. Nonetheless, we are nearly ready to begin construction.

Engineering/Site Planning Posted March 7rd, 2013

With our tower model chosen, we are putting together information to have our engineering and site plans generated.

Tower model chosen. Posted March 1st, 2013

We built headroom into our plans for this tower and have spent time choosing a tower model that satisfies immediate requirements but also gives flexibility later for tower upgrades. We are now moving forward with equipment/supply acquisition.

Approved. Acquistion begins. Posted January 31st, 2013

Our plans have been approved, we now begin acquisition of equipment and supplies.

Zoning Posted January 23rd, 2013

Questions and Answers regarding the tower

What is the scope of this project? How much longer after tower construction?

Construction of the tower itself constitutes the majority of the work. After the tower is built, we need to: demarcate ingress electrical cabling, install tower electrical cabling, install beacon system, install datacom cabling and install wireless equipment. The equipment installation will take a small fraction of the time that the tower construction itself took. A week's worth of work remains after the construction phase ends.

We have been waiting, how much longer?

Building a communications tower has internal and external requirements, i.e. there is much more to it than simply ordering equipment and the tower and throwing it all up. The FCC has its requirements, the FAA weighs in due to danger to aircraft, local zoning and planning departments must be consulted. The site plans and engineering plans must be generated and approved before we can even start digging the hole. Involvement of external personnel includes involving all of their own internal timeframes and most of the time they do not match up with our desired deployment timeframes. Due to the massive amount of trees we are working against, an improperly planned tower could result in lack of coverage for example. Building a tower from scratch is an expensive and time consuming endeavour, SyncWave is very well known for performance and stability, we must ensure this tower will deliver as there is no taking it back or changing it when it is built.

I can see the tower, am I serviceable?

Yes, you have an excellent chance of getting internet service, line-of-sight installs are almost always guaranteed to work. If you do not have direct line of site to the tower, chances are you can still get service. We perform free site surveys for all interested customers, please fill out the following form and a representative will contact you shortly.

What if I am close but cannot see the tower?

We use frequencies designed for use in LOS (Line of Site), nLOS (Near Line of Sight) and NLOS (Non-Line of Sight) environments, some of our equipment is designed to penetrate trees, foliage and various types of substrate. Additionally, we have several powerful receiver options at our disposal as well as a myriad of ways the equipment can be mounted. If there is a way, we will spare no means to find and utilize it.
